The Year The Media Died

“The lyrics refer to the dramatic changes to media and advertising arising from the accelerating migration to digital”, zegt McDuff er ten overvloede bij.

“Oh and there we were all in one place, our business models lost in space, with no money left to start again…”

Op de melodie van American Pie zingt Kevin Osborne over The Year The Media Died:

Bye, bye those big upfront buys
Pitched my client who was pliant
But the pitch didn’t fly
And old ad boys were drinking martinis dry
Singing “Tech has taken us for a ride”
“Algorithms got me cross-eyed”

As I watched users generate, without ad support to carry the freight, no content like MTV could break the consumers’ love of free.

I asked the man who ran The Times, about turning dollars into digital dimes, but he just frowned and turned away.
